Premium Servers
Today at 19:00 UTC, we're excited to announce a significant update for Rust players - Premium Servers. This innovative feature aims to enhance the gaming experience by filtering out cheat users, creating a fairer environment for legitimate players.
To access Premium Servers, your Rust Steam inventory must have a value of $15 or more. This includes items from the Permanent Item Store like building skins, décor packs, and hazmat skins, as well as other tradable Rust items with a value attached. Please note that Rust's standalone DLC items like Instruments, Sunburn, and Voice Props packs are currently not included, although this may change in the future.
Initially, we considered a $20 threshold, but after analyzing data from millions of accounts, we have set the threshold at $15 for better effectiveness. This decision is based on a comparison of banned accounts versus regular players, aiming to strike a balance between accessibility and cheat deterrence, leaning towards the lower end.
Key Features of Premium Servers:
- Premium Visibility: Premium Servers will be visible only to accounts meeting the $15 threshold.
- Tag Display: Premium Servers will showcase a clickable Premium tag providing eligibility details.
- Anti-Cheat Measures: While not foolproof, Premium Servers add an extra layer of defense against disposable cheat accounts.
- Server Owner Opt-in: Server owners can enable Premium status by setting "server.premium 1" in their configurations.
- Adaptive Threshold: The $15 threshold may be adjusted over time, with additional factors introduced to refine premium status.
- Real-Time Authorization: New purchases may take up to 20 minutes to reflect Premium Server authorization, depending on Steam traffic.
- Status Verification: Users can manually refresh or check their premium status via the server listings and the Premium Server tag.
- Avatar Display: Premium status will be displayed on the user's avatar in the menu.
In case of abuse or exploitation of Premium servers or the market, accounts will be subject to bans, and all Rust skin trades are logged for transparency.
