Rust Time to Kill Update: New Features and Enhancements

Digital Clock: A New Craftable Item
Rust introduces the Digital Clock, a simple yet powerful addition to your base's electrical setup. This new craftable item displays the current server time when powered and consumes only 1 power. Available at the Tier 2 Workbench, it can be crafted for 100 Metal Fragments.

The clock also allows you to set up alarms, enabling you to trigger circuits inside your base at specific times. Whether automating farms, activating traps, or controlling lighting systems, you can set up to five alarms simultaneously.
GCO Weapon Attachment
The Gas Compression Overdrive (GCO) attachment is a new, cutting-edge experimental weapon attachment designed for players seeking more damage and speed in their shots. It boosts projectile damage and velocity, allowing for harder hits.

However, this extra power comes with trade-offs: a slower fire rate and increased recoil. The GCO attachment is compatible with the Thompson, SAR, SAP, M92, M39, and Custom SMG.
Wallpapers: Decorate Your Base
This update introduces wallpapers as a new way to decorate your base's interior. Wallpapers can only be applied to the interior side of walls, are purely visual, and do not interfere with other items.

- Default blueprint
- Crafting cost: 10 cloth for 2 pieces
- Includes 'Vintage' default skin in blue, red, green, and yellow

Wallpapers can be skinned during crafting or using a spray can. The Wallpaper Starter Pack offers 22 extra skins for purchase.

Colourblind Accessibility Improvements
Rust now offers customizable options for players with color blindness, allowing them to adjust problematic areas in the game world and UI. Options include tree marker colors, health bar colors, and more.

- Tree marker colors
- Health Bar color
- Hunger Bar color
- Hydration Bar color
- Team Name tag color
- Enemy Name tag color
- Ally Name tag color
- Monument blocked color
- Mushroom color

Tunnel Network Visibility Layer
Rust re-enables the feature separating above and below ground networking groups, improving client performance and reducing network traffic. This change should be invisible to players.
Error Messages Quality of Life
Error messages have been moved from chat to toast messages, providing clearer and more specific feedback. A new convar allows players to keep error messages in chat if preferred.

Localization Enhancements
Efforts to improve Rust's localization include better support for right-to-left languages, fixing truncated texts, and addressing unlocalized texts.
World Update Playtest
The Aux02 beta branch is open for public testing ahead of next month's significant world update. The update will revamp cliffs, rivers, dive sites, and introduce new environmental areas.

Players can provide feedback via the F7 form or on Discord. Note that map wipes will happen irregularly over the month.
Twitch Rivals: Base Invaders
Tune in for the Base Invaders event on September 10th, featuring 20 teams battling for a $50,000 prize pool. Exclusive Twitch Drops will be available during the event.

Wellipets x Rust Collaboration
Wellipets' iconic Frog Boots are now available in Rust, with a real-world version in Rust colors. Each pair comes with a key to unlock an in-game Frog Boot Helmet.

Modding API Break
Changes to Rust's modding API will break some mods relying on the internal object pooling utility. Mod owners should switch to "Pool.FreeUnmanaged" or "Pool.FreeUnsafe" as needed.
Linux Dedicated Server Update
Rust's dedicated server builds on Linux will soon require Debian 11 / Ubuntu 20 or later due to third-party software changes. Server owners should update their systems accordingly.
Impact on Players and Server Owners
The "Time to Kill" update brings numerous enhancements for players and server owners. The new digital clock and weapon attachments offer more customization and strategic options. Accessibility improvements and localization efforts make the game more inclusive, while the world update playtest provides a glimpse into upcoming changes. Server owners should prepare for the Linux server update to ensure compatibility.
